Rebel Track And Field Inks Five Newcomers

OXFORD, Miss. Ole Miss track and field head coach Joe Walker announced Friday that five high school seniors have signed national letters of intent to join the Rebel program next season.

 

On the men’s side, the Rebels signed a pair from the state of Mississippi, beginning with Pearl High School standout Morris Kersh.  Kersh, who is the son of Ole Miss 800 meter record holder George Kersh, owns a personal best mark of 1:59 in the 800 meters.  His talents aren’t just limited to middle distance, as he holds a personal best mark of 49-00.00 in the triple jump as well. 

 

Newton County High School senior sprinter Michael Granger has also inked his name on a national letter of intent to compete for the men’s team next season.  A native of Newton, Miss., Granger holds a personal best time of 10.46 in the 100 meters. 

 

A native of Dallas, Texas, sprinter Jasmine Williams posted personal best times of 11.60 in the 100 meters and 24.60 in the 200 meters at Rockwall High School. 

 

Lauren Hollingsworth will arrive in Oxford via Villa Ducheshe High School in St. Louis, Mo.  Hollingsworth competed in all three sprinting events in high school and recorded top times of 11.90 in the 100 meters, 24.60 in the 200 meters and 56.50 in the 400 meters. 

 

In field events, Neal Tisher is expected to compete for the Rebels in the pole vault after posting a top mark of 12-07.00 in the event at St. Paul High School in Mobile, Ala.

 

“We are extremely excited about this group of signees,” Walker said.  “All of them are quality athletes and quality students, and will make an immediate impact on our program.”
