3/20/2009 | Softball

OXFORD, Miss. - Fresh off picking up its first SEC win of the season, Ole Miss will welcome the No. 2 nationally-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide to Oxford this weekend for a three-game series. The Rebels will square off against the Tide in a double header on Saturday at 1 p.m. and conclude the series on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Rebels earned their first conference victory of the season on Wednesday with a double header split with South Carolina. The Gamecocks won the first game 2-1 in an 11-inning nail bitter, before Ole Miss took the second game 12-8.

“We are coming off a win in a hard-fought series, and Alabama always brings their A’ game, so we need to bring our A-plus’ game, said Ole Miss head coach Missy Dickerson.”

Junior All-American Lauren Grill led the Rebels against the Gamecocks, going 4-for-7 with a home run and four RBI. She was also walked four times, three of which were intentionally. Grill leads the team with six home runs and 20 RBI on the season. Freshman Corrine Doornberg continues to pace the team in batting with a .302 average, while junior Becky Nye has eight wins and a team-best 1.95 ERA.

Alabama enters the weekend ranked No. 2 in the country, but the Tide dropped both games of a double header at No. 20 LSU on Wednesday. Senior Brittany Rogers leads Bama with a .500 batting average, while freshman Whitney Larson has smashed a team-high seven homers. In the circle, Kelsi Dunne leads the Tide with a 10-0 record and a 0.46 ERA in 11 starts.

Alabama leads the all-time series 39-2 over Ole Miss, including a three-game sweep of the Rebels a year ago. Ole Miss’ last victory over Alabama was a 3-0 decision over then-No. 11 Crimson Tide in 2005.
