Rebels Cannot Complete Sweep Of Razorbacks

OXFORD, Miss. After winning both games of a doubleheader yesterday, the Ole Miss Rebels couldn’t complete the three-game sweep of the Arkansas Razorbacks, as they dropped the final game of the series 6-0 on Sunday.

Catcher Whitney Cloer gave Arkansas a 1-0 lead in the top of the third with a two-out RBI single to right that scored shortstop Brittany Griffiths. The Razorbacks put a couple more runners on in the inning, but Ole Miss starting pitcher Becky Nye struck out Miranda Dixon to end the frame.

Third basemen Amie Hubbard extended the Razorback lead to 2-0 with a leadoff home run to left in the top of the fourth. Arkansas added to its lead again in the fifth after pitcher Miranda Dixon hit a two-run home run to left that gave the Razorbacks a 4-0 advantage.

Cloer struck again for the Razorbacks in the sixth with a double to left center that plated two runs to extend the Arkansas lead to 6-0.

The Rebels threatened in the bottom of the sixth after they put runners on first and second with one out on a pair of singles from Lisa Conchos and Molly Goza. However, Ole Miss failed score in the inning, as Arkansas pitcher Miranda Dixon struck out Ashley Dowdy and got Amber Tramp to ground out to third for the final out.

Nye took the loss after pitching 4.0 innings and allowing two runs on five hits while striking out four. Lindsey Perry entered in the fifth and pitched the final 3.0 innings. She allowed four runs on five hits.

Next up, Ole Miss will travel to Madison, Miss to face in-state rival Mississippi State in a non-conference match up at the M&F Bank Fastpitch Classic on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m.
