Dowdy's Blast Helps Ole Miss Top Southern Miss

It would be all the runs the Rebels would need as starting pitcher Becky Nye limited the Golden Eagles to just three runs on five hits. Nye picked up the win after striking out a season-high eight batters in the complete-game effort.
Southern Miss jumped on the scoreboard in the top of the first with an RBI double down the line in left from first baseman Ashley Razey that gave the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead. USM had runners on second and third with two down, but Nye struck out third baseman Lauren Castellvi swinging to end the inning.
The Golden Eagles added a run in the third on an error by first baseman Aly Presswood and another run in the fifth on a solo home run from catcher Kristin Pilgrim.
Next up, Ole Miss will host the Jacksonville State Gamecocks on Wednesday at 4 p.m. at the Ole Miss Softball Complex. The game is a make-up contest from the March 11 meeting that was rained out and admission is free.
