4/17/2009 | Women's Golf
Lance was one of only three players to go under par in the first round at the Par 71, 6,204-yard course. At one point the Franklin, Tenn., native had it to 4-under through 14 holes with four birdies, but bogeyed three of her last four en route to the clubhouse. The 70 equals her best round of the year, having also posted a 70 at the LSU Classic. She is tied with Lucy Nunn of The Rebels finished with a 301 and are tied for seventh in the standings, just one back of the top five. Senior Dori Carter fired a 73 and is just three back of the leaders and tied for 10th. Freshman Haley Millsap shot 78, junior Sara Grantham carded an 80 and sophomore Jillian Brodd finished with an 81. “We played relaxed today, and as a result, got off to a good start,” head coach Michele Drinkard said. Coming in we let a few shots get away. All-in-all we had a good day, and it was nice to get that first round under our belt. “We are proud of Ashley and how her game is maturing. Every round this spring she is continuing to improve a facet of her game, and it is truly fun to watch.” The Rebels will tee of the second round Saturday beginning at 8:20 a.m. CT.
