Freshman Leads Rebels On Day Two Of NCAA East Regional

GAINESVILLE, Fla. The Ole Miss women’s golf team led by freshman Haley Millsap shot a 293 in the second round of the NCAA East Regional here Friday at the Mark Bostick Golf Course.  The Rebels moved up a spot to 15th heading into the final round.

Millsap carded a career-low 1-under 69 in the second round to lead the Rebels.  She jumped all the way to a tie for 16^th with three birdies on the day.

“Haley was very poised with her game today, and it was a lot of fun to watch.  She is showing how much she has matured this first year,” head coach Michele Drinkard said.

Senior Dori Carter shot 73,  junior Sara Grantham fired a 77, sophomore Jillian Brodd rebounded with a 74, and freshman Ashley Lance had a 80.  

“We scored as a team much better largely because we relaxed and stayed in the present moment,” Drinkard said.  “They recognized that we do belong in this field and can compete with anybody.  Tomorrow we are looking to continue our relaxed play and finish strong.”

Alabama leads the field heading into the third and final round. The Crimson Tide have a team total score of 575, eight strokes ahead of Denver, who is in second place with a 583.  Bama’s Camilla Lennarth is in first place on the individual leaderboard with a 36-hole score of 139.
