OXFORD, Miss. Ole Miss track and field sophomore Lee Ellis Moore was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI first team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization and publication announced.

A native of Cordova, Tenn., with a 4.00 GPA in biological science, Moore has served as one of the best 400 meter hurdlers in the country.  Moore won three individual titles this year and currently ranks seventh in the nation in his event.

In addition, Moore has finished in the top-5 of the 400 meter hurdles in every meet in which he has competed.  He won the event at the Rhodes Invitational, the Alabama Relays and the Mississippi Open.

He posted a fourth place finish at the SEC Outdoor Championships by setting a new school record with a time of 50.01.  He went on to automatically qualify for the NCAA Outdoor Championships by placing second at the MidEast Regional with a time of 50.45.

“Lee Ellis embodies all the qualities that you look for when you describe the true student-athlete,” Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker said.  “He has an incredible desire to be both an excellent student and athlete, and I think that he has accomplished that both on the track and in the classroom.”

Moore and eight other Rebels are scheduled to take part in the NCAA Outdoor Championships June 10-13 at the University of Arkansas’ John McDonnell Field.

The ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District and All-America teams are voted on by CoSIDA members across the country and are divided into districts. Student athletes who are selected to the All-District first team are eligible for the national ballot.
