Rebel Track And Field Inks Darryl Jenkins

7/30/2009 | Track and Field

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss track and field head coach Joe Walker announced Thursday that sprinter Darryl Jenkins has signed a national letter of intent to compete for the Rebels next season.

Jenkins arrives at Ole Miss following a two-year stint at Rend Lake College in Ina, Ill., under head coach Brent McClain. An NJCAA All-American with the Warriors, Jenkins finished seventh in the NJCAA in 2008 in the 200 meters after posting a time of 21.09.

In 2007, he helped Rend Lake to the NJCAA championship in the 4x400 meter relay after helping the Warriors run a time of 3:10:30. In addition, Jenkins was also the Junior Olympic champion in the 200 meters with a time of 20.85. He also competed in the 100 meters and finished with a mark of 10.90.

"We are extremely glad that Darryl chose Ole Miss," Walker said. "He is a talented runner with a great attitude, and we feel he will make an immediate impact on our sprint program. One thing I really like is his ability to run all the sprints, which makes him not only versatile, but also a great factor when we select relay units."

Prior to joining the Warriors, Jenkins competed on the high school level at Tinley Park High School in Tinley Park, Ill. He was the conference champion in the 200 meters in 2003, 2005 and 2006, while also earning the distinction of conference champion in the 100 meters from 2005-06.

Jenkins helped lead the Titans to a seventh place finish in the 4x100 meter relay in 2005 at the state championships. Individually, he turned in a second place finish in the 200 meters and fourth place finish in the 100 meters at the 2006 state championships.
