Preseason Report 09.02: Veterans Gaining Confidence
9/2/2009 | Football
"I just think it's time," Ole Miss head coach Houston Nutt said. "You get to a certain point when you hit your 28th or 29th practice and you know it's just time to go."
Nutt continued to praise the play of senior tight end Gerald Harris, while mentioning how valuable he will be to the Rebel offense.
"He is by far our best blocker and has gotten a lot more confidence since the Cotton Bowl," Nutt said. "He had a tremendous summer and is usually a guy that never gets hurt. We have a few more plays for him this year and he's responded well to that and that's why you want him out there."
With just days before kickoff, Nutt and Ole Miss spent time Wednesday working on several critical aspects of the game.
"We worked some on our two minute offense, hurry-up offense and goal line situations," Nutt said.
Nutt also addressed which of the Rebel quarterbacks may have the edge to serve as the team's backup heading into the opener.
"Last Saturday I would have said Billy Tapp, but today I might say Nathan Stanley," Nutt said. "Billy has some experience, but the upside to Nathan is unlimited. There is nothing like game experience."
Kickoff Sunday is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. The game will be televised by ESPN.
