Rebels Experience Etiquette Dinner
9/23/2009 | Athletics
OXFORD, Miss. -- The Ole Miss athletics department's Rebel Ready program recently hosted its annual "Backpack to Briefcase" Etiquette/ Networking Dinner for Rebel student-athletes.
This program is an interactive five-course meal designed to provide junior and senior student-athletes with the first steps toward their desire careers. Through networking with M-Club Alumni members and business leaders, student-athletes have an opportunity to learn about the job search process and world of work from those who understand it most.
Ms. Toni Avant, Career Center Director, served as the facilitator for the event. Approximately 12 former athletes and local business leaders served as table mentors, offering career advice and sharing life lessons regarding pursuing successful careers.
Charlie Williams, former M-Club Alumni President, shared closing remarks. He encouraged student-athletes to continue developing relationships with their peers and others that will benefit them after their careers end. He also stressed the importance of how this will benefit them well beyond their collegiate careers.
Derek Horne, Ole Miss Senior Associate Athletics Director for External Operations, said the event was a success.
"Our desire is to prepare our student-athletes for life after sports," said Horne. "This program affords them the tools that will benefit in any chosen field of endeavor."
The Athletics Department would like to thank the Ole Miss Alumni Association and M-Club Alumni Chapter for their generous support of this event.
