OXFORD, Miss. - After two weeks since its last meet, the Ole Miss cross country team returns to action Saturday when the Rebels host the Pre-SEC Invitational from the Ole Miss Golf Course.
Competition kicks off at 9 a.m. when the men take part in an 8K race. The women's 6K race will follow at 10 a.m.
Along with Ole Miss, Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Christian Brothers, Samford, South Carolina and West Alabama will also compete in the meet.
"We are looking forward to running a home meet on this year's SEC course," Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker said. "We may be a little handicapped on Saturday because of injuries, but we still feel like this is a good opportunity in helping us prepare for the SEC Championships next month."
The Rebel men's team is led by junior Barnabas Kirui, who is coming off an individual title in Ole Miss' last meet. In fact, his time at the Brooks Twilight Classic of 19:00.77 broke the course record and ranks first in the SEC in a four mile run.
Senior Gabriel Ngwiri put together a strong run at the Brooks Twilight Classic and is expected to be one of the frontrunners on Saturday. Ngwiri's time of 20:32.22 in the four mile run ranks him 10th in the conference.
On the women's side, sophomore Logan Waites has finished first for the Rebels in every meet in which she has competed since joining the team. Waites posted a time of 18:45.37 at the Brooks Twilight Classic and turned in a third place finish.
