Kirui Wins Brooks Twilight Classic To Open XC Season

Kirui, who sat out all of last season and most of the 2007 season due to injury, managed to beat his closest competitor by nearly 12 seconds in his highly anticipated return to action.
Senior Gabriel Ngwiri finished second on the team and 13th overall after posting a time of 20:32.22. Fellow senior Chad Berry turned in an 18th place showing after finishing with a time of 20:52.87.
Freshman Riley Young finished fourth for the Rebels and 25th overall with a time of 21:02.24. Al Lowe, another Ole Miss freshman, raced to an 86th place finish following his time of 22:22.17. Michael Jordan posted a time of 22:51.06 on his way to a 108th place finish, while Jack Hammond was 130th with a time of 23:29.02.
Alejandro Quintana finished in 136th place after crossing the finish line with a time of 23:39.55. Ty Gillespie was next for Ole Miss and 146th overall after turning in a time of 24:01.34. Erik Solberg rounded out the runners on the men's time with a 157th place finish with his time of 24:29.32.
On the women's side, sophomore Logan Waites paced the Rebels with a sixth place finish with a time of 18:45.37 in helping the team to an eighth place finish. Junior Allison Kneip was second for the Rebels and 39th overall after posting a time of 19:50.75.
Freshman Anne Threlkeld finished in the top 50 after placing 43rd following her time of 19:53.38. Julie Little took 55th place with a time of 20:12.41, while senior Anna Adams finished in 83rd place with a time of 21:09.12.
Jamie McColloch and Ella Gentry were the final two finishers for the Rebels as the duo finished with times of 22:39.00 and 22:41.01, respectively.
Ole Miss returns to action Sept. 26 when the Rebels host the Pre-SEC Invitational from the Ole Miss Golf Course. The Rebels will also host the SEC Cross Country Championships on Oct. 31.
