OXFORD, Miss. - Freshman Jasmine Trotter felt right at home at Ole Miss during her recruiting visit and knew this is where she wanted to be.

"I chose Ole Miss because of the environment and team. The team made me feel like this is where I'm supposed to be," Trotter said. "The best part of this team is to have this opportunity to be a part of it. I've been through so much and just to be here is a blessing."

Trotter, a 6-2 forward from Marion, Ark., played a variety of sports growing up but ultimately decided to focus on basketball since it was the sport she was the best at.

"Playing other sports helped keep me in shape for basketball and they also allowed me to work on my flexibility," Trotter said.

In high school, she played basketball, soccer and volleyball. Trotter was a McDonald's All-America nominee and a member of the all-conference team. She averaged 14 points, 13 rebounds and eight blocks per game as a senior.

"I was honored and surprised when I learned I was a McDonald's All-America nominee," she said. "Not surprised because I didn't think I was good enough but it motivated me want to work harder, knowing people thought I was good enough."

Trotter says her effort and ability to run the floor are strengths she brings to the team while she said she can work on her post game and getting stronger to help the team.

Head coach Renee Ladner said Trotter has already shown a great deal of improvement since she arrived on campus and that Trotter is a very focused player.

"I'm very proud of Jasmine," Ladner said. "She has made the most improvements of any player this year since she arrived on campus. When she gets stronger, learns to play physical and at the speed of our league, she'll be a true player and be able to contribute. She is delightful and she really wants to do well for this team."

Fan's first chance to see Trotter and the rest of the 2010-11 women's basketball team will be on Thursday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. when the team hosts the University of West Georgia in an exhibition game.
