OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's and women's cross country teams will travel to a pair of meets this weekend in their final tune-ups before the Nov. 1 Southeastern Conference Championships.
The men's "A" team will travel to Terre Haute, Ind., for Saturday's NCAA Pre-Nationals event, hosted by Indiana State University. The women's squad and the men's "B" team will run at the Choctaw Open in Clinton, Miss., also on Saturday.
The Ole Miss men are ranked eighth in the latest USTFCCCA Cross Country South Region rankings. The Rebels are led by senior Barnabas Kirui, who has posted top-four finishes in each of the three races this season. His 8K time of 23:27.51 at the Greater Louisville Classic is the second-fastest by an SEC runner this year.
Kirui will be joined at Pre-Nationals by his brother, Martin Kirui, as well as Kipchirchir Kiptoo, Max Holman and Riley Young.
The Rebel women have been led all season by junior Logan Waites, who has been Ole Miss' top finisher in each competition this year. She posted a second-place finish at the Arkansas Tech Twilight Run to open the season.
The Nov. 1 SEC Championships will be held in Columbia, S.C., and hosted by South Carolina. Barnabas Kirui will look to defend his title after claiming the 2009 Championship in Oxford.
