BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ole Miss senior Barnabas Kirui capped off the 2010 regular season by being named the SEC Men's Cross Country Athlete of the Week for the second time this year.

The native of Litein, Kenya was the highest finisher among Southeastern Conference runners at the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind. He finished fourth in the Blue Race and fifth overall (Blue and White men's races combined) with an 8K time of 23:29.30. It was Kirui's second-fastest 8K time this year, which is also the second-fastest in his career. The next closest finisher from an SEC school was Alabama's Julius Bor with a time of 23:57.60.

Kirui improved on his ninth-place finish at last year's NCAA Pre-Nationals. He has finished fourth or better in every race he has run this season.

The two-time SEC Cross Country champion will be looking to become the fourth runner in league history to win the SEC Championships three times when they are held Nov. 1 in Columbia, S.C. He won the event in 2006 and last year.
