Rebels Set For SEC Cross Country Championships

Kirui Brothers Run A Long Way | SEC Championships Central
OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men and women will participate in the Southeastern Conference Cross Country Championships, to be held Monday at Hilton Field on Fort Jackson in Columbia, S.C.
Admission is free and open to the public, however proper photo identification and vehicle insurance and registration is needed for entry. The women's 6K race is slated for a 10 a.m. (ET) start, while the men's 8K will begin at 11 a.m. (ET). The awards ceremony is set for Noon (ET).
The Rebel men are ranked eighth in the South Region rankings in the latest USTFCCCA poll. They are led by senior Barnabas Kirui, a two-time SEC Cross Country Champion, including last year in Oxford and as a freshman in 2006. He will try to become just the fourth runner in league history to claim three cross country individual titles.
Kirui has won two SEC Cross Country Athlete of the Week honors this year and has finished no worse than fourth in any race as a senior.
He is joined on the Rebel men's team by his brother, Martin Kirui, who has finished second for Ole Miss at every meet this season. The other men competing are Kipchirchir Kiptoo, Chad Berry, Max Holman, Riley Young, Loren Newsom and Al Lowe.
On the women's side, Logan Waites has been the Rebels' top finisher in every race, including a first-place finish most recently at the Choctaw Open in Clinton, Miss. She will be joined at the SEC Championships by Katie Breathitt, Allison Kneip, Kayleigh Skinner, Anne Threlkeld, Elise Luers, Amy McCrory and Tia Leake.
