Rebels Compete At NCAA South Regional

HOOVER, Ala. - Barnabas Kirui turned in a sixth-place finish to lead the Rebels at the NCAA South Regional on Saturday at Veterans Park.
With his sixth-place result, Kirui earned a spot in the NCAA Championships field by finishing as one of the top four runners on a team that did not advance from the South Regional. He ran a 10K time of 30:15.66, just 12 seconds off the winner, Florida State's Ciaran O'Lionaird, who ran 30:03.34.
Martin Kirui placed 18th on Saturday with a time of 30:42.23. He awaits word from the NCAA selection committee to find out if he is selected as an at-large participant at the NCAA's.
Both Kirui brothers earned All-South Regional honors. The NCAA Championships will be held Monday, Nov. 22 in Terre Haute, Ind.
They helped Ole Miss to a seventh-place finish out of 18 teams, garnering 219 points. Kipchirchir Kiptoo finished 36th with a time of 31:35.45. Max Holman and Riley Young also scored for the Rebels.
On the women's side, Logan Waites was the top Rebel finisher in 30th place with a time of 21:00.37 in the 6K race. She helped her team finish eighth out of 25 squads. Ole Miss ranked 15th in the USTFCCCA South Region rankings entering the race.
Katie Breathitt was second for the Rebel women, finishing 42nd with a time of 21:24.82. Kayleigh Skinner, Anne Threlkeld and Allison Kneip also scored for Ole Miss.
Neither Ole Miss squad advanced to the national championships as a team.
