OXFORD, Miss. - The Rebel volleyball team will close out the regular season at home this weekend when Ole Miss (19-8, 13-5 SEC) hosts Kentucky and No. 21 Tennessee, beginning with the Wildcats on Friday night at 7 p.m.
It will be senior night for the Rebels as Ole Miss will honor its senior student-athletes on the same night the Rebels go for the 20th win of the season.
"We have talked all week about how comfortable we are at home and how we had the chance to do something special here," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Getzin. "We come home for our last home stand and we invite our fans to come out on Friday night and support this team on senior day this weekend."
Ole Miss defeated Kentucky earlier in the year on the road in the second weekend of conference play and will be looking for a season sweep of the Wildcats on Friday night. The Rebels fell to then No. 22 Tennessee on the road that same weekend and will look to close out the season with a win when Ole Miss hosts the Lady Vols on Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.
Leading the way for the Rebels is one of the team's two senior players in middle blocker Miranda Kitts. The 6-1 blocker paced Ole Miss in a big win over Auburn last Sunday on the Plains, putting down 14 kills and hitting .414 for the contest. Kitts is hitting .303 on the year and averages more than a block a set for the Rebels as one of the most consistent performers on the team offensively and defensively.
Also providing a big boost for the Rebels has been the play of fellow senior Emily Kvitle. The setter opened the season as the starting setter, but has since transitioned into a dual role, playing setter at times and helping anchor the back row as Kvitle has posted 11 double-digit dig performances.
Sophomore Whitney Craven continues to lead the Ole Miss offense with 308 kills on the year and is averaging more than three kills per set this season to go along with the offensive production from Kitts. Sophomore right side hitter Allegra Wells is also a big offensive weapon for Ole Miss as she has put down almost 250 kills this season and average 2.5 kills per set.
Defensively, junior Morgan Springer paces the back row defense for the Rebels, coming up with 4.62 digs per set - the second most in the league this season in the category with one weekend remaining in the season.
Friday's match begins at 7 p.m. at the Gillom Sports Center on campus and admission is free. Fans can also follow all of the action live on the internet with Gametracker at www.OleMissSports.com.
