OXFORD, Miss. - Junior middle blocker Regina Thomas was named an All-SEC first team selection by the Southeastern Conference coaches, the league office announced on Monday when it released the season's award winners.
Thomas is the first Rebel to be named a first team selection since the 1990 season when Michelle Whitby-York was honored by the league's coaches.
"I don't know of anyone more deserving selection," said Ole Miss head coach Joe Getzin. "Regina's leadership and hard work have set the standard for Ole miss volleyball. Thankfully, we have her for one more season."
Thomas finished the regular-season ranked seventh nationally in hitting with a .421 hitting percentage and hit .451 in Southeastern Conference play. Thomas led the Rebels in the statistical category and also led the team with 1.16 blocks per set.
The junior missed the final six matches of the season after suffering a knee injury.
Thomas turned in her best match of her career in a win over Southern Miss when the middle blocker put down a career-high 19 kills and 11 blocks in the victory. She helped lead the Rebels to a 19-10 record on the year and an 11-3 mark in SEC play before suffering her season-ending injury.
She posted double-digit kills in nine matches and was named the SEC Defensive Player of the Week on October 18, after helping lead the Rebels to a shutout win over No. 12 LSU in Oxford.
Ole Miss will be making its third NCAA Tournament appearance in the last five seasons - and third in program history - when the Rebels take on North Carolina on Friday night at 7 p.m. CT. Fans can follow all of the action live on the internet from www.OleMissSports.com.
