OXFORD, Miss. - Spectators returning this fall to Ole Miss' C.M. "Tad" Smith Coliseum to watch Rebel basketball should be a tad more comfortable and safer, thanks to two recent improvements.

For starters, four new, high-efficiency boilers will make ambient temperature more consistent, and additional handrails will enhance the stability and confidence of fans along arena stairs. The projects took between two and four months to complete.

"The boilers have improved the efficiency of the building's heating and hot water systems," said Ian Banner, university architect and director of facilities planning.

"The additional handrails in the lower portion of the arena were done to improve comfort and safety. They also bring the building closer to compliance with current regulations."
