Men's Golf Tied For Second At Mobile Bay

2/21/2010 | Men's Golf

MOBILE, Ala. - The Ole Miss men's golf team, led by two-time winner Jonathan Randolph, shot a 291 in the first round of the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate Sunday at the Magnolia Grove Crossings Golf Course and stands in a tie for second.

Junior Jonathan Randolph fired a 1-under 71 to lead the Rebels, and is tied for sixth in the individual standings. The Brandon native is four back of Middle Tennessee's Kent Bulle, who shot a 67 to lead all players.

Sophomore Joe David carded an even par 72 and is tied for ninth. Freshmen Tom Brown and Pete Kellermann shot 73, and 75 respectively, and sophomore Billy Brozovich rounded out the Rebels with a 76.

"It wasn't necessarily a pretty round, but we made a good comeback," head coach Ernest Ross said. "We were 7-over and finished 3-over par. We are still making too many mistakes and too many big scores. We had a good practice session after the round. Jonathan continued his good play. He has elevated his game and confidence."

Vanderbilt leads by one at 290, with Memphis and Ole Miss right behind at 291. Illinois State and Middle Tennessee are tied for fourth at 293.
