Rebels Open Home Slate With Red & Blue Classic

2/24/2010 | Softball

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss softball team will open its home schedule on Friday, as the Rebels host the fourth annual Red & Blue Classic at the Ole Miss Softball Complex. The Rebels open their home slate with matchups against Centenary at 10 a.m. and Murray State at 4 p.m. on Friday.

The Rebels will welcome a total of three non-conference teams to Oxford - Centenary, Murray State and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville - for the round-robin affair. A total of 10 games will be played, with four games coming Friday and Saturday and the final two on Sunday.

Ole Miss enters the weekend with a 6-4 record on the season after winning three games at the FAU Kickoff Classic last weekend. The Rebels posted a pair of wins over Maryland and also knocked off Pittsburgh.

Senior Amber Tramp leads the Rebels with a .467 batting average on the season and has a team-high eight RBI. Junior Lindsey Perry holds a 2-0 record in the circle, while transfer Brittany Barnhill has a 2-1 mark with a team-low 3.20 ERA.

Centenary enters the Classic with a 1-3 record on the year, while SIU-Edwardsville is 2-7 on the season. Murray State, who is in its inaugural season of softball, has not played a game yet.

The Rebels have only played one team in the tournament field, holding a 1-0 mark against Centenary. It will be Ole Miss' first meeting against both Murray State and Southern Illinois-Edwardsville.

Haley Hines, a patient at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis, will be honored by Ole Miss on Friday. Hines, who will be accompanied by her family, will throw out the first pitch at both the Rebels' games against Centenary at 10 a.m. and Murray State at 4 p.m.

In addition, Hines, whom the team met in January after a community service trip to the hospital, will be made an official member of the team, given a team uniform and presented with her own personal locker in the Ole Miss locker room for the entire season.

Admission to the Red & Blue Classic and all Ole Miss softball games is free. Live in-game statistics will be available for all games on www.OleMissSports.com.
