George Belts Two Home Runs, Sets Freshman Record in Softball’s Win Over North Alabama
4/14/2026 | Softball
OXFORD, Miss. – Ole Miss softball freshman Madi George tallied two home runs to set a new single season freshman record, as the Rebels downed North Alabama, 7-3 on Tuesday night at the Ole Miss Softball Stadium.
George drove in a career-high five runs on her two blasts, leading the Rebels (27-18, 2-13 SEC) to victory, while breaking Lauren Grill's freshman record of 14 home runs, set in 2007. Kyra Aycock picked up the win in the circle, striking out two over six innings of work against the Lions (28-12, 10-5 ASUN).
The day started slowly, with both pitchers commanding the game. Aycock generated four groundouts and a double play through the first three frames, keeping the Lions offense in check.
The Rebels struck for an early lead in the bottom of the third inning, thanks to a single by Kennedy Bunker and a Persy Llamas walk to set up George. The freshman promptly blasted an opposite field shot to give Ole Miss a 3-0 lead.
Aycock continued to roll, generating a key double play and three more groundouts in total through the next two frames. That was enough for the Rebels to work back to George in the batting order, who set the new record with a towering two-run blast to center field to make it 5-0.
The Rebels nearly ended the game early, scoring two more runs in the seventh inning on an error, following a walk by Laylonna Applin and singles by Taylor Malvin and Bunker. However, the Lions managed to snare another liner by George to extend the game.
North Alabama struck for three runs in the top of the seventh inning, but Lilly Whitten was able to shut the game down and secure the victory.
The Rebels return to SEC play this weekend, traveling down to face No. 15 LSU. Game one is set for Friday at 6 p.m. CT and will be streamed via SEC Network Plus.
