Ole Miss Earns Split At Red And Blue Classic

Grill smashed a solo homer to straight-away center to lead off the bottom of the third to pull Ole Miss to within 3-2 of the Ladies. Catcher Amber Tramp tied in the game at 3-3 with a sac fly later in the frame and Alyssa McGovern scored on a wild pitch to give the Rebels a 4-3 lead after three innings.
Ole Miss extended the lead to 8-3 in the sixth with three runs highlighted by a Lauren Grill RBI triple to center.
Grill finished the game 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. Second baseman Corrine Doornberg also added two hits and two runs in three at-bats.
Barnhill (4-1) picked up the complete-game win after allowing three runs on four hits while fanning 11 batters.
Ole Miss took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first after Doornberg led off the inning with a triple to left center and then scored on center fielder Alise Doubt's RBI single.
Centenary came back and took a 2-1 lead in the second on a two-run double to center by designated player Regina Salvatore and added to its lead in the third with a solo homer from shortstop Katie Matthews.
Ole Miss will face off against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville tomorrow at 10 a.m. on the final day of the Red and Blue Classic.
Game Two
Southern Illinois-Edwardsville left fielder Lindsey Barron tripled to left in the bottom of the seventh inning and Ole Miss out fielder Ashley Dowdy miss played the ball allowing Barron to score and give the Cougars a 5-4 win over Ole Miss on day two the Red and Blue Classic.
Ole Miss took 2-0 lead in the top of the first after shortstop Lauren Grill smashed a two-run home run deep to left to score Corrine Doornberg, who had walked to lead off the game. It was Grill's second homer of the season and second in as many days.
SIU-Edwardsville tied the game at two in the bottom of the first on a RBI single from third baseman Lauren Zembrushki and a throwing error by Rebel catcher Amber Tramp.
Zembrushki homered in the fifth to give the Cougars a 4-2 lead, but Ole Miss answered back with a two-run inning in the top of the sixth highlighted by an RBI single by center fielder Alise Doubt.
Doubt finished the game a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate with one RBI, while Grill added two hits and two RBI in three at-bats.
Lindsey Perry (3-2) suffered the loss after giving up the one unearned in run only 0.1 inning of action. Perry entered into the game in the seventh to replace starting pitcher Becky Nye, who allowed four runs, two earned, and struck out five in 6.0 innings of work.
