Rebels Unable To Make Move At Liz Murphey
3/28/2010 | Women's Golf
ATHENS, Ga. -- The Ole Miss women' golf team improved its score from round one in the second round of the Liz Murphey Collegiate Saturday, but was unable to make much of a move in the 23-team field.
The Rebels shot a 315 in the second round, 12 shots better than Friday's opening round of 327.
Fourth-ranked Duke maintained its lead in the team standings. The Blue Devils shot a second straight 300 and lead Auburn by nine strokes and North Carolina by 14. Arkansas (615) and Alabama (618) complete the top five teams.
Freshman Haley Sanders led the Rebels on day two with a 4-over 76. Junior Jillian Brodd carded a 77. They were the only two Rebels to post a score in the 70s.
Playing conditions improved slightly from the first round, with sunshine replacing cloud cover and temperatures rising into the 60s. The wind, however, which changed directions and gusted over 25 mph during the day, continued to affect the performance of the competitors. Thunderstorms are predicted for Sunday's final round.
The final round begins Sunday at 7:30 a.m. CT with a shotgun start.
