OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss picked up another signee for the 2010 recruiting class with the addition of left-handed pitcher Austin Wright, who signed a National Letter of Intent with the Rebels head coach Mike Bianco announced on Tuesday.
Wright comes to the Rebels after two seasons at Chipola Community College in Marianna, Fla., where he has played the last two seasons with fellow Rebel signee Blake Newalu.
"Austin is the type of kid we love to recruit to this program," said assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Carl Lafferty. "He's a big kid with a power arm. He's coming here from a great junior college program and has played against some top competition. We're really excited about getting him on campus and having him as a part of our program."
This season, the 6-4, 235-pound southpaw posted a 7-3 record with a 3.36 ERA as he struck out 96 batters and walked 45 in 80.1 innings. He helped lead Chipola to a runner-up finish in the Panhandle Conference and a berth in the state championship tournament.
Wright pitched a complete game shutout of Northwest Florida State College, combined for a shutout of St. John's River Community College and also pitched a complete-game victory over Tallahassee Community College.
The southpaw from Conant High School in Schaumberg, Illinois, signed with Arkansas out of high school but never attended the University, instead attending Chipola after graduating from Conant.
