6/13/2010 | Men's Golf
OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss golfers Jonathan Randolph and Tom Brown will begin competing in the British Amateur Championship Monday in Muirfield, England.
Randolph, a rising senior for the Rebels, recently completed an outstanding junior campaign, earning first team All-America honors. He posted six top-five finishes in seven starts this past spring, including a third at the NCAA Southeast Regional. The Brandon, Miss., native concluded the year with a school best 70.44 stroke average.
Brown, a native of Hertfordshire, England, was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team. He made the lineup in every tournament this year and earned seventh at the Squire Creek Intercollegiate for his best finish.
The format for the British Amateur includes two rounds of stroke play on Monday and Tuesday at Muirfield and North Berwick. The low 64 players will advance to match play, which begins on Wednesday.
Some of the top golfers in the world have competed at the Amateur Championship, including Sergio Garcia, who won the event the last time (1998) it was held at Muirfield.
