Rebels Gear Up For NCAA Track And Field Championships

OXFORD, Miss. - Fifteen members of the Ole Miss track and field team will have an opportunity to be crowned NCAA Champion when the Rebels travel to Eugene, Ore., to take part in the NCAA Outdoor Championships from historic Hayward Field.

On the men's side, freshman Ricky Robertson will compete in the high jump Friday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. (CT) and will look to become the first Rebel to in school history to win an NCAA title in the event. The Hernando, Miss., native enters the meet ranked first in the NCAA with a top height of 7-05.75.

Sophomore Brian Knight is also slated to compete in the high jump and is currently ranked third in the country with his best height of 7-04.50.

The third Ole Miss jumper to qualify for the NCAA Championships, sophomore Caleb Lee will take part in the long jump and will try to win a title Saturday at 11:30 a.m. Lee reached the event after posting a distance of 24-09.25 in the preliminaries last month at the NCAA Preliminary Round-East.

Senior Colin Moleton will compete in the javelin throw Thursday at 7:15 p.m. after earning a spot at the meet after turning in a distance of 225-02.00 in the preliminaries at the NCAA Preliminary Round-East.

Freshman sprinter Mike Granger will take part in the 100 meter semifinals Wednesday at 7:45 p.m. Granger ranks 22nd in the nation in the event with a top time of 10.29 he posted at the SEC Championships.

Sophomore Carson Blanks will compete in the 400 meter hurdle semifinals Wednesday at 8:45 p.m. and enters the race ranked 23rd in the NCAA with a top time of 50.87.

Distance runners Barnabas and Martin Kirui will each run in the 3,000 meter steeplechase semifinals Wednesday at 8:15 p.m. Barnabas Kirui ranks 12th in the nation in the event with a top time of 8:43.72 and will be looking for his second title in the event after winning it in 2007. Martin Kirui stands 17th in the country with his top time of 8:42.47.

On the women's side, freshman Neal Tisher is scheduled to compete in the pole vault Friday at 6 p.m. after qualifying for the event after recording a height of 12-09.50 in the preliminaries at the NCAA Preliminary Round-East, making her the second-highest pole vaulter in school history.

The women's 4x100 meter relay team of Lor'Rena De'Jurnett, Kristin Bridges, Jasmine Williams and LaJada Baldwin will take part in the semifinals of the race Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. The quartet qualified for the championships after finishing with a time of 45.10 in the preliminaries at the NCAA Preliminary Round-East.

The women's 4x400 meter relay team of Sofia Hellberg-Jonsen, Bridges, Baldwin and Sofie Persson ranks 20th in the nation with a top time of 3:34.60 and will race in the semifinals Thursday at 9:05 p.m.
