MONCTON, Canada - Ole Miss rising sophomore Mike Granger has advanced to the semifinals in the 100 meters at the 2010 IAAF World Junior Championships.
Granger won his first-round heat on Tuesday with a time of 10.47. The semifinals and finals of the event take place on Wednesday evening. He also has a chance to compete in the 4x100-meter relay on Friday and Saturday of the championships.
The Hickory, Miss., native qualified for the World Junior Championships by claiming the 100 meters crown at the USA Junior Championships in June. He won the event with a time of 10.30 in the finals, while his 10.29 burst in the prelims was the fifth-fastest time ever recorded by a Rebel sprinter.
Granger is looking to become the second Ole Miss athlete to win a gold medal at the World Junior Championships. Antwon Hicks claimed the 110-meter hurdles title in 2002.
