Rebel Golfers Struggle On Day One At Carpet Capital

9/10/2010 | Men's Golf

Sept. 10, 2010

DALTON, Ga. - The Ole Miss men's golf team did not start off the 2010-11 season like they wanted, shooting a 311 in the first round of the Carpet Capital Collegiate Friday at The Farm.

The team never could get anything going on the day, with All-American Jonathan Randolph even struggling to a 3-over 75.

"This was one of the worst rounds we have played in a long time," head coach Ernest Ross said. "This course is tough and has some tricks, but we need to play smarter. We didn't play these fast, sloping greens well at all. All we can do is practice harder and smarter and do our best tomorrow. We need to salvage some pride."

Alabama shot an 8-under 280 and leads Clemson (283) by three. Auburn carded a 285 for third place, Georgia Tech fired a 287 for fourth and Georgia rounds out the top five with an even par 288.
