Diamond Rebels Open Fall Practice This Weekend

OXFORD, Miss.- The Ole Miss baseball team takes to the field this weekend to open fall practice as the Rebels work in preparation of the 2011 season with Scout Day on Friday and the first fall scrimmage on Sunday.
The Rebels are coming off an eighth straight NCAA Tournament appearance after advancing to the NCAA Charlottesville Regional at the University of Virginia. Ole Miss has advanced to post-season play nine of the last 10 seasons.
"It's always exciting this time of year to get back out on the field," said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. "You can see the players are excited to get back out there and the energy is high. It's an exciting time for the coaching staff as well, to see the new recruits in action and to see the returning players get back to work."
The Diamond Rebels bring back 18 players from last year's roster and welcome the addition of 20 new faces to the field this fall. Among those newcomers are six players who were drafted in the 2010 MLB Draft, but elected to come to Ole Miss and play for the Rebels rather than head to the professional ranks.
Ole Miss will hold its annual Scout Day on Friday afternoon beginning at 2 p.m., and hold an intra-squad scrimmage on Sunday at 1 p.m. Both events will be at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.
Practices will run for the next six weeks culminating in the annual Ole Miss Baseball Fall World Series. The Fall World Series will consist of a best of three series beginning on Wednesday, Oct. 27, and run through Friday, Oct. 29, if necessary.
