Kirui, Rebel Men Finish Second At Crimson Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Barnabas Kirui turned in a second-place finish, and the Ole Miss men also finished second at the Crimson Classic cross country meet Saturday morning.

The Ole Miss men finished second out of 18 with a total time of 2:06:28 in the 8K race, behind host and winner Alabama, which turned in a time of 2:05:23.40.

Barnabas Kirui recorded his second top-two finish of the season after winning the Arkansas Tech Twilight Run in his senior season debut. His time of 23:48.10 on Saturday was behind only Columbus State's Meshack Koyiaki at 23:44.40.

Three more Rebels finished in the top 30 of the 147 competitors. Martin Kirui came in seventh place with a time of 24:55.50. Kipchirchir Kiptoo ran 25:21.10 to finish 14th. Chad Berry ran 25:50.80 to finish 27th. Max Holman, Riley Young and Al Lowe also scored for the Rebels with times of 26:32.50, 26:37.10 and 28:25.70, respectively.

The Rebel women finished sixth out of 18 teams in their 5K race, ranking behind Texas A&M, Alabama, Samford, Auburn and Tulane with a team time of 1:34:42.10.

Logan Waites was the top Ole Miss finisher on the women's side with a time of 18:21.20, good for 22nd place. Allison Kneip finished 32nd at 18:42.40. Kayleigh Skinner (18:59.80, 41st) and Anne Threlkeld (19:04.60, 43rd) also turned in top-50 finishes in the field of 140.

"We had a great team performance for the men and a solid one for the women," said head coach Joe Walker. "No one has broken 24 minutes on this course, and Barnabas did."

Ole Miss returns to action on Oct. 2 at the Greater Louisville Classic in Louisville, Ky.
