BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Ole Miss senior Barnabas Kirui has been named the Southeastern Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.

Kirui was runner-up at the Crimson Classic on Saturday and helped the Rebel men finish second out of 18 teams in the 8K race. The Kenyan's time of 23:48.10 would have set the Harry Pritchett Running Course record if not for the winning time of 23:44.40 by Columbus State's Meshack Koyiaki.

It was the second straight top-two performance for the defending SEC Champion. He won the Arkansas Tech Twilight Run in Ole Miss' first competition of the year.

Next up for Kirui and the Rebels is the Greater Louisville Classic on Oct. 2 in Louisville, Ky.
