OXFORD, Miss. - Freshman Kenyotta Jenkins averaged a double-double all four years in high school and is making adjustments in the college game that will help her contribute to the Ole Miss women's basketball team this season.
"It was hard at first to adjust to playing in college but I'm getting used to it now," Jenkins said. "I started off a little shaky but I'm getting used to everything now."
Part of Jenkins' transition to college basketball is moving from forward, which she played in high school, to playing guard in college. Head coach Renee Ladner said Jenkins can play inside or out and is expecting Jenkins to build a strong foundation in the weight room.
"She's moving from forward to guard at this level and she is a work in progress working on moving from one position to the next," Ladner said. "Once she gets a good strength and conditioning foundation, I feel she will help our team."
Jenkins averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds, 5 blocks and three steals as a senior at Potts Camp High School in Potts Camp, Miss. She also helped lead her team to a 20-9 record last season.
"My favorite moment in high school was when I scored 40 points in a division tournament," Jenkins said. "At Ole Miss, I'm just enjoying being part of this team."
Fan's first chance to see Jenkins and the rest of the 2010-11 Ole Miss women's basketball team will be on Thursday, November 4 in an exhibition game against the University of West Georgia. Tipoff is at 7 p.m.
