OXFORD, Miss.- The Ole Miss baseball team continues to work in preparation for the 2011 season with a pair of scrimmages for the third straight weekend at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.

The Rebels will take the field at 2:30 p.m. on Friday and again at 1 p.m. on Sunday, while taking Saturday off for the Ole Miss football game against Kentucky.

It's been a solid two weeks of practice for the Rebels so far who saw the first weekend controlled from the mound, but saw the bats come alive in the second pair of scrimmages.

"We've gotten off to a great start with two weekends under our belt," said Ole Miss head coach Mike Bianco. "It's been exciting to watch the returning players and see the improvement. It's also been exciting to see the newcomers take the field.

"Offensively, we swung the bats well last weekend after the first weekend being dominated by the pitchers," Bianco said. "The hitters really got up off the mat and answered the bell in the second weekend."

The Rebels have 18 returning players and 20 newcomers hitting the field this fall battling it out for a starting job as Ole Miss prepares for the 2011 season that begins on Friday, February 18, 2011.

Among those 20 newcomers are six players drafted in this summer's MLB Draft who chose to bypass professional baseball to come compete for the Rebels.
