TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Ole Miss women's cross country team placed second and the men came in third in a strong showing at the Crimson Classic on Saturday.

With 91 points, the Rebel women finished just three points behind host Alabama, which won the 5K race with 88 points. Logan Waites paced Ole Miss by crossing the finish line in third place with a time of 17:23.46. Anne Threlkeld and Katie Breathitt also placed in the top 15 out of 202 total runners. Threlkeld came in 13th with a time of 18:03.83, while Breathitt was 15th with a time of 18:04.56.

The Ole Miss women finished ahead of fellow Southeastern Conference teams Tennessee, Georgia and Auburn in the 25-team field at Harry Pritchett Running Park, which will play host to this year's NCAA South Regional Cross Country Championship on Nov. 12 for the second time in three years.

The 8K men's race was won by Georgia Tech with 83 points, followed by Auburn (122 points) and Ole Miss (131 points). The Rebels finished ahead of SEC schools Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee in the 21-team field.

Martin Kirui turned in a fourth-place finish for the Rebels with a time of 25:04.03. Kipchirchir Kiptoo was next for Ole Miss in 18th place (25:33.69), and Max Holman next in 24th place (25:50.54).

"We had one of our best efforts collectively for men and women today," Ole Miss head coach Joe Walker said. "Logan and Martin once again ran among the leaders. Our gap between 1-5 for the women was closer. It was a narrow loss, but we think this meet helps our readiness for the coming SEC meet."

Next up for Ole Miss is the SEC Cross Country Championship on Oct. 31 in Knoxville, Tenn.
