Marcel Thiemann Through To Quarterfinals At Clay Court Classic

SARASOTA, Fla. - Ole Miss men's tennis senior Marcel Thiemann won two matches in straight sets on Friday, to advance to the quarterfinals at the Dick Vitale/Lakewood Ranch Intercollegiate Clay Court Classic here at the Lakewood Ranch Country Club.
Marcel, the No. 1 seed and ranked No. 12 in the nation, defeated Rifat Biktyakov of Oklahoma State 6-4, 6-3 and then downed Victor Mauz of Miami 6-3, 6-2. He will face Pepperdine's Mousheg Hovhannisyan in the quarterfinals Saturday at Noon.
Chris Thiemann won his first round match topping Carlos Taborga of Alabama, 6-3, 6-2, but then had to retire in his second round match to Julian Dehn of Minnesota after splitting sets.
The Clay Court Classic features players from some of the top teams in the nation including Arizona, Pepperdine, Minnesota, Miami, Florida, Virginia, Alabama, and Duke.
