Preciado Signs With Ole Miss Softball

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss softball head coach Windy Thees announced the signing of Melina Preciado, of Ontario, Calif., to a national letter of intent on Friday. Preciado will join the Rebels for the 2012-13 academic year.

"Melina plays for one of the top summer programs in the country and some of the best instructional coaches in the nation," said Thees. She has tremendous glove skills in the infield and can play every infield and outfield position. She is a player that will be tough to keep out of the lineup."

A three-year starter at Ontario High School, Preciado earned first team All-Mount Baldy League honors the past two seasons and second-team honors as a freshman after helping lead the Jaguars to the league championships as a freshman and sophomore.

A standout volleyball player, she earned first-team all-league honors as a junior and was a second-team pick as a sophomore after helping her squad to back-to-back league championships.

Preciado is also a member of the Corona Angels club team and earned back-to-back fifth-place finishes at the 2010 and 2011 18U ASA Champions Cup. Her team also advanced to the 2011 ASA 18U Premier Girls Fastpitch Nationals, finished runner-up at the 2010 16U Premier Girls Fastpitch Nationals and earned an eighth-place finish at the 2009 16U ASA Nationals.

An honor roll student at Ontario High School, Preciado currently holds a 3.5 GPA and is a member of the scholar-athlete program. She joins Brianna Payne as part of the Rebels' 2012-13 signing class.
