OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss softball head coach Windy Thees announced the signing of Natalie Martinez, of Chino Hills, Calif., to a national letter of intent on Wednesday.
Martinez is a standout at Ayala High School in Chino Hills, where she batted .317 with a .398 slugging percentage and six doubles playing both third base and outfield. Named a team captain this season, Martinez helped lead her team to the 2010 CIF Division 3 and state championships. A four-year varsity athlete, she earned second team Sierra All-League last year.
"Natalie will bring her positive energy and strong swing to our catcher position," said Thees. "She has a great arm and handles her pitchers and defense very well. Natalie also has deceptive speed for a catcher and is a five-tool player."
Voted Ayala High's homecoming queen this year, Martinez is also a standout in the classroom. She was named Renaissance Scholar Athlete for 2011-2012 and a CIF Athletic Scholar in 2010.
