OXFORD, Miss. - Softball standout Haley Culley, Of Mesa, Ariz., has signed a national letter of intent with the Ole Miss program, head coach Windy Thees announced on Thursday. Culley will join the Rebels for the 2012-13 academic year.
A three-year starter at Red Mountain High School, Culley has helped the Mountain Lions to three-straight Div. 5A-1 state championship game appearances and has won the last two titles. Culley has been selected to the East Valley All-Region first team three times in her career and earned honorable mention all-state honors as a freshman, second team all-state honors as a sophomore and first team all-state honors as a junior.
"I have loved watching Haley play for years, and I am really excited to have an Arizona native on our squad," said Thees. "She can play both middle infield positions, as well as centerfield, and plays all of those positions equally well. Haley is a triple threat from the left side, a player that can hit for power, slap and beat out a bunt. She is a true competitor with two state championships under her belt already."
Culley holds the single-season records at Red Mountain for hits and stolen bases and is a member of the Arizona Hotshots club team.
