OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's tennis team returned to the Top 25 this week in the ITA National Rankings as they get set to begin a four-match road swing at LSU Friday. The Rebels and Tigers will square off at 3 p.m. at the Dub Robinson Tennis Stadium.
The Rebels, ranked No. 22 in the nation, enter the weekend at 6-3 overall and 1-1 in the SEC. They split the opening weekend of conference play losing to Kentucky 5-2 and shutting out Vanderbilt 4-0. Senior Kalle Norberg won both his matches to improve to 27-3 in the SEC for his career. Since 2009, Norberg is 11-0 in the SEC, and on Friday, he won his 80th career match.
LSU comes into Friday's match at 4-7 overall and 1-1 in league play. The Tigers dropped a 6-1 decision to Florida last Friday in Gainesville and then picked up a 5-2 win over South Carolina in Columbia last Sunday. LSU stepped out of conference play on Wednesday hosting No. 1 Virginia and losing 5-2. The Tigers are led by Neal Skupski who owns a 4-3 record at No. 1 singles and is ranked No. 69 in the nation. He is also ranked No. 17 in doubles with Sebastian Carlsson.
Ole Miss has won six straight against LSU including last year's 4-3 win in Oxford.
On Sunday, the Rebels will travel to Fayetteville to face Arkansas at 1 p.m. The Razorbacks enter the weekend at 3-7 overall and 0-2 in the SEC. They are coming off a 7-0 loss to Florida.
The Rebels have owned the Razorbacks for quite some time, boasting a 22-match win streak in the series.
"This is an important road trip for us," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "Road matches in the SEC are always a tough assignment. Despite their records, we know both teams will be ready for us, and so we'll need to be at our best."
Both matches will feature live scoring which can be accessed by going to www.OleMissSports.com and clicking on the link in the calendar.
