MADISON, Miss. - Ole Miss edged Mississippi State to win the inaugural Egg Bowl Scramble here Tuesday at Reunion Golf and Country Club, as part of the sponsorship media day for the upcoming BancorpSouth Intercollegiate to be held April 4-5 at Reunion.

The Rebels tallied a 678.81 to the Bulldogs 682.9 to win the trophy and $2,000 to the golf program. Mississippi State received $1,000 for their program. The four-person teams comprised of a player and or coach from each university with members of BancorpSouth and their customers.

"It was a great opportunity today and a fun event," Rebel head coach Ernest Ross said. "We were fortunate to win as a team today, and we get to keep this trophy for a year. As they call it the `traveling trophy,' we're going to travel with it. We want to thank BancorpSouth for a great day, and we look forward to the tournament in about three weeks."

"No matter which school won, the goal for BancorpSouth is to support education," said David Barrrentine, the Mid-Mississippi Region President for BancorpSouth. "Other sports often take the lion's share of recognition, and we wanted to make sure these scholar-athletes got their own moment in a well-deserved spotlight."

Ole Miss junior Joe David fired a 68 for the low round of the day to help his team of Scott Parrish, Peter Marks and David Harris post the low team total of the day with a 128.2.

"It's always fun to come out here and play with the guys who sponsor our tournament," David said. "I enjoy getting to meet them and seeing how supportive they are of our program. All these guys are fun. I've never met anyone I didn't like out here. It was a good day for Ole Miss and a good day for BancorpSouth."

Earlier in the day, BancorpSouth and Ole Miss held a press conference to promote the upcoming BancorpSouth Intercollegiate, which will feature 15 teams from around the Southeast, including all four Division I schools in Mississippi, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Southern Mississippi and Jackson State.
