Melson Named To The AP All-SEC Second Team

NASHVILLE - Senior guard Kayla Melson has been named to the Associated Press (AP) All-SEC Second Team the AP announced Tuesday.
Melson, who earlier this month was named to the Second Team All-SEC, is the third Ole Miss player to earn AP All-SEC honors. Arminite Price was a two-time AP All-SEC Second Team selection (2003-04, 2004-05) while Bianca Thomas was a Second Team honoree in 2008-09. In addition, both Price and Thomas were also AP All-SEC First Team selections during their careers.
During her senior year, Melson, a team captain, led the team in scoring and was third in the SEC in overall games averaging with 15.1 point per game. She ended the year second in the league in overall games in field goal percentage (43.7 percent) and recorded 18 double-digit scoring games including five 20-point games and one 30-point game. Melson started and played in 23 games missing six with an injury. She played in 15 games with 40+ minutes and ended the year second on the team in assists (93).
For her career, Melson scored 1,101 career points which is 23rd all-time (two points away from 22nd all-time) and is sixth all-time in career assists with 453.
This season, Melson was also named to the SEC Community Service Team and was a finalist for the Cellular South Gillom Trophy.
