OXFORD, Miss. - The Ole Miss men's tennis team is in the sunshine state this week for a pair of matches beginning with Stetson on Thursday at 8 a.m. CT, and concluding with a big showdown at No. 13 Florida Saturday at Noon CT.
The Rebels enter the Stetson match at 7-4 overall and 2-2 in the SEC. They are coming off a 5-2 win over Arkansas last Sunday.
Stetson enters the match at 11-6. They lost to Winthrop 5-2 in their last match. The Hatters are led by Maksim Levanovich who is 11-2 at No. 1 singles.
On Saturday, the Rebels will travel to Gainesville to face the Gators, who are sitting atop the SEC with Georgia and Tennessee at 4-0. They are led by this week's SEC Player of the Week, senior Alexandre Lacroix, who is ranked No. 6 in the nation. He recently notched his 100th career singles win.
"This is always a difficult place to play," head coach Billy Chadwick said. "We beat them two years ago, fighting through adversity (long rain delay), and it's going to take that same type of effort this time to beat them."
Ole Miss has won four of the last five meetings. Included in that match Chadwick referred to, when after a long rain delay in 2009, Ole Miss came away with a 4-2 win. Last year's match was also as close as you can get, with Florida edging the Rebels 4-3.
Saturday's match will feature live scoring and a live blog, which can be accessed by going to www.OleMissSports.com and clicking on the link in the calendar.
