Rebels Drop Series Finale To No. 2 Florida

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss dropped the series finale to No. 2 Florida, 11-3, on Sunday afternoon at the Ole Miss Softball Complex.
Florida grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI single up the middle by shortstop Cheyenne Coyle. The Gators loaded the bases with one down in the frame, but Ole Miss starting pitcher Kendall Bruning struck out designated player Ashley Snedeker and got centerfielder Michelle Moultire to fly out to left to end the threat.
First baseman Megan Bush extended the Gator lead in the third with an RBI single to center that put Florida up 2-0. The Gators once again loaded the bases with no outs, but relief pitcher Brittany Barnhill struck out the next two and got the final batter to ground out to end the inning.
The Rebels took the lead in the fourth aided by a pair of Gator errors. Brittany Broome reached on a booted ground ball to lead off the inning and later scored on a sac fly from third baseman Londen Ladner. After Barnhill walked and Natalie Nimmo singled, Cali Overbeck grounded out to short, but Florida first baseman Megan Bush dropped the throw and allowed Barnhill to score and tie the game. First baseman Erinn Jayjohn then smashed a single into center that plated Nimmo and gave the Rebels their first lead.
The Gators retook the lead in the fifth thanks to back-to-back, bases-loaded walks by Barnhill. Florida added another run in the sixth on a Kelsey Horton RBI single to right that put UF up 5-3 and posted six runs in the seventh highlighted by a two-run double off the wall in left center from leftfielder by Kelsey Bruder.
Barnhill suffered the loss after allowing two runs on two hits in 2.1 innings. She struck out four and walked six.
Next up, the Rebels will host Arkansas for a double header on Wednesday at the Ole Miss Softball Complex. The first game is set for a 4 p.m. first pitch and both games will be televised by Cox Sports.
