AUBURN, Ala. - Senior Lindsey Perry pitched four innings of scoreless relief, but it wasn't enough as Ole Miss fell 4-1 to No. 22 Auburn in the first game of the series on Friday. The Rebels and the Tigers will continue their three-game series tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Jane B. Moore Field in Auburn.
Auburn (27-4, 7-2 SEC) grabbed a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second highlighted by an RBI single from leftfielder Kelsey Colton and a steal of home by Kydall White. The Tigers added another run in the third on an RBI single to right center from catcher Elizabeth Eisterhold that put Auburn up 4-0.
The Rebels (11-23, 1-8 SEC) cut into the Tiger lead in the fourth after Auburn third baseman Kydall White's errant throw on Ole Miss shortstop Natalie Nimmo's infield single allowed RT Cantillo to score from second. Cantillo finished the game 1-for-2 at the plate with a walk and a run scored.
Brittany Barnhill started and took the loss for Ole Miss after allowing four runs, two earned, on five hits. Perry entered in relief in the third and pitched the final four innings. She did not allow a hit and struck out four.
