Rebels Knock Off No. 22 Auburn To Even Series

AUBURN, Ala. - Senior Lindsey Perry give up one run in five innings of relief and freshman RT Cantillo hit a go-ahead RBI double in the sixth inning to lift Ole Miss to a 2-1 win over No. 22 Auburn on Saturday and even the series at one. The Rebels and the Tigers will play the rubber match of their three-game series tomorrow at 1 p.m.

With the game tied at one in the top of the sixth inning, leftfielder Brittany Broome reached on a lead-off single and stole second. Cantillo then laced her double off the wall in left center that plated Broome and gave Ole Miss the lead for good

"This was a good team win today," said Ole Miss head coach Missy Dickerson. "We did a great job of coming out and playing as a team today after a tough game yesterday. Hopefully, the weather will hold off and we can get the win tomorrow."

The Rebels (12-23, 2-8 SEC) grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth after Cantillo singled to lead off the frame and later scored on a wild pitch by Tiger starting pitcher Lauren Schmalz. Auburn tied the game at one in the fifth on a two-out, bases-loaded walked by catcher Elizabeth Eisterhold. However, Perry came back to induce first baseman Kelsey Smiley to ground out to first to end the threat.

The Tigers loaded the bases with two down in the seventh on a pair of hits and an Ole Miss error, but Perry got designated player Hilary Mavromat to ground back to the pitcher to end the game.

Perry earned the win after allowing one run on five hits in five innings of work. She struck out one and walked four. Kendall Bruning started for the Rebels and gave up two hits in two innings with three Ks.
