OXFORD, Miss. - For the first time ever, the Ole Miss men's golf team will compete in the Hootie @ Bulls Bay Intercollegiate, one of the strongest fields during the regular season. The three-day event begins Sunday at Bulls Bay in Awendaw, S.C., and concludes Tuesday with the final round.

The field includes seven teams in the latest Top 25 Golfweek rankings including: No. 5 Florida, No. 6 Auburn, No. 7 Texas A&M, No. 9 Augusta State, No. 13 LSU, No. 15 Virginia and No. 22 Duke.

"This is a new tournament for us. The field is very strong, with the best of the ACC, SEC and 2009 National Champion Texas A&M," head coach Ernest Ross said. "Our goal will be to learn how to play the course in the practice round and then come out strong in the first round. In some years, we have been at the top of the nation in first round scoring average. This year, we have struggled getting off to a good start. I am challenging our players to come out strong. I relish a challenge."

Taking to the links this weekend will be juniors Zach Primavera and Joe David, senior Jonathan Randolph, junior Billy Brozovich and sophomore Chad Bounds. Primavera had his best round as a Rebel, firing a three-under 69 in the final round of the Schenkel Invitational on March 20 to tie for 13th.

The tournament gets its name from the presence and private concert by the band Hootie and the Blowfish.
