DENTON, Texas - Ole Miss softball dropped both games on day one of the Courtyard Classic, falling 3-2 to Wichita State in game one and 3-0 to Texas-Arlington in game two.

Senior Brittany Barnhill allowed just two earned runs in seven innings of work, but the Shockers topped Ole Miss 3-2 in the first game of the day. WSU third baseman Erinn Carney's two-out, RBI single down the left field line broke a two-all tie in the sixth inning and proved to be the game winner.

Trailing 2-0 entering the bottom of the fifth, Ole Miss scored a pair of runs aided by two Wichita State errors to tie the game at two. With two out and nobody on, second baseman Corrine Doornberg reached on a fielding error by Shocker shortstop Hayley Temple and scored on Natalie Nimmo's double to right center. Catcher Kelly Nolan then smashed a grounder between Temple's legs that scored Nimmo from second to tie the game.

Wichita State grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first on a bases-loaded sac fly by Carney. The Shockers extended their lead to 2-0 in the fourth on a two-out, RBI single from first baseman Jamie Hull.

Barnhill allowed eight hits and struck out four in the complete-game loss. Nimmo and centerfielder RT Cantillo posted the Rebels' only two hits in the game.

Game Two

Cali Overbeck went 2-for-3 with a single and a double, but Texas-Arlington right-hander Callie Collins scattered five hits over seven innings as the Mavericks downed the Rebels 3-0 in game two.

Stephanie Gonzalez gave the Mavericks a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second with a two-out, RBI single to left. Texas-Arlington added to its lead in the fifth with a two-run single up the middle from third baseman Taylor Zink that put UTA up 3-0 after five.

Kendall Bruning started for the Rebels and took the loss after giving up three runs on seven hits and striking out six in 4.2 innings. Lindsey Perry did not allow a hit and struck out two the final 1.1 innings of work.

Ole Miss will take on Louisiana Tech tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. on day two of the Courtyard Classic and will play host North Texas at 3 p.m.
