OXFORD, Miss. - Senior Lindsey Perry struck out six and allowed just two hits in a complete-game shutout to help lift Ole Miss to a 2-0 victory over Middle Tennessee in game one of a double header on Wednesday at the Ole Miss Softball Complex. The Blue Raiders came back to take the nightcap 2-1 over the Rebels.

Perry recorded her third complete-game shutout of the season, as she allowed just two infield singles in seven innings of work. It also marked the seventh-career shutout for the senior pitcher.

"Lindsey came out and pitched really well," said Ole Miss head coach Missy Dickerson. "She didn't have her best stuff, but she battled and worked to get outs. I thought (Brittany) Barnhill pitched well in the second game; we just didn't help her offensively. We didn't make adjustments at the plate."

The Rebels grabbed a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first on an RBI single off the bat of designated player Brittany Barnhill. Second baseman Cali Overbeck extended the Ole Miss lead in the fifth with an RBI single that scored right fielder Jayla Hubbard.

That would be all the runs the Rebels would need, as Perry did not allow a runner past second until the seventh inning. In that frame, the Blue Raiders would load the bases with two out, but Perry struck out second baseman Kayla Dortch to end the game.

Brittany Broome led the Rebels at the plate with two hits and a run scored in two at-bats, while Barnhill added two hits and an RBI in three at-bats.

Next up, Ole Miss will travel to Athens, Ga., for a three-game SEC set against No. 4 Georgia beginning on Friday. First pitch for game one is slated for 5:30 p.m.

Game Two

Middle Tennessee's designated player Corris Abel broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fifth inning with a two-run double to right center that helped Blue Raiders to a 2-1 victory in Wednesday's nightcap.

Starting pitcher Brittany Barnhill took the complete-game loss after allowing two runs on just three hits with eight strikeouts.

Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Barnhill responded for the Rebels at the plate with a sac fly to left that cut the Blue Raider lead to 2-1. However, that was as close as Ole Miss would get to the lead. Center fielder Amanda Hutcheson led off the bottom of the seventh with a double to left, but was stranded to end the game.

Barnhill finished the game 2-for-2 at the dish with an RBI, while second baseman Cali Overbeck picked up two hits in three at-bats.
